High Visibility Enforcement Funding Opportunity!

Crashes involving pedestrians and bicyclists are more likely to result in fatal or serious injuries than any other types of crashes, and the financial impacts and suffering caused by these crashes are significant. As a result, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is looking to supplement ongoing educational campaigns with high visibility enforcement operations in the most needed locations. FDOT now has funding available for law enforcement agencies to conduct High Visibility Enforcement operations for pedestrian and bicyclist safety.

NHTSA Video: Enforcing Law for Bicyclists

This 7-minute roll call video was created by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for law enforcement education. One video is bike-specific and the other is ped-specific. The videos take you through each statute, demonstrating what the activity looks like, explains why it’s unsafe, and how to safely correct the risky behavior in a constructive way – by warning or citation.

Alert Today Alive Tomorrow: Roll Call Videos for Law Enforcement

These 11-minute videos were created by the Florida Department of Transportation for law enforcement education. One video is bike-specific and the other is pedestrian-specific. These videos can be viewed on DVD in group settings or streamed individually to an officer’s in-car computer or PC. The videos help officers to familiarize themselves with common pedestrian and bicycle crash types, identify dangerous pedestrian, bicyclist, and motorist behaviors, learn the various Florida Legal Statues that pertain to bicycle and pedestrian safety, observe effective education and enforcement techniques, become aware of resources available to them, and to understand their role in making Florida’s roadways safer for pedestrians and bicyclists.
