High Visibility Enforcement
High Visibility Enforcement for Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety
HVE is a traffic safety approach designed to create deterrence and change unlawful traffic behaviors. Crashes involving pedestrians and bicyclists are more likely to result in fatal or serious injuries than any other types of crashes, and the financial impacts and suffering caused by these crashes are significant. As a result, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is looking to supplement ongoing educational campaigns with high visibility enforcement operations in the most needed locations. FDOT now has funding available for law enforcement agencies to conduct High Visibility Enforcement operations for pedestrian and bicyclist safety.
High visibility enforcement funds are intended as a crash mitigation tool. These enforcement activities are designed to target unsafe behaviors of all road users, including motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists.
If your agency is interested in conducting high visibility enforcement for pedestrian and bicyclist safety in your community, please submit an application with the details specified in the application below, outlining your proposed enforcement program. Applications will be accepted until funds are exhausted. Applications received by July 1, 2016 will be given priority. If you have any questions about the program or FDOT’s Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow campaign for pedestrian and bicyclist safety, please contact Achilleas Kourtellis at USF-CUTR at firstname.lastname@example.org or Trenda McPherson at 850-414-4025 or email@example.com
